In south India, Idly is the staple, a healthy dish made every day, sometimes we feel boring to have same Idly and side dish. Variety in that will add some attention to eating, also rest over Idlies can be made usefully into these type of hot and spicy Idli masala, Idly upma and Pepper idly without wasting it. Idly masala does not need any side dish, it has its own aroma from its masala added, can pack in box for lunch.
Mini idlis also can be made to pack for lunch box:
Idly-8 nos cut into cubical pieces( I have used mini idlis)
Tomato chopped-1 (tomato paste or purée)
Curry leaves-1 twig
Chilli paste or powder-2 tsp
Salt 1 tsp+ sugar 1/2 tsp optional
Fennel seeds-1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds-1/2 tsp
Urad 1/2 tsp
1.Heat pan with 2 tbsp of oil-temper with above”To temper ingredient”
2. Add chopped Curry leaves and onion saute until translucent, add Tomatoes saute until it leaves its skin.
3. Add Salt, chilli powder or paste, sprinkle some water and saute for 2 minutes. Allow it to cook till the masala gets mushy.
4. Add cut idlies or mini Idlies reduce flame and stir well to get coated.
5.Keep stirring on low flame for a minute or two, so that idly absorbs the masala well.
Masala Idly is ready to serve for dinner or breakfast.
Note : Keep idlies in the fridge so that it won’t break while cutting or stirring.
