Nature has provided us with many wonderful medicinal plants which has amazing healing properties. Many common ailments can be cured the natural way with the extraordinary powers of food. Balloon Vine leaves know as Mudakathan Keerai in Tamil  is very effective in curing joint pains. Mudakkattan is a wild creeper grows on waste land, along the village road sides and also around the fence of gardens.
It is known as Balloon Vine or Love in a puff or Heartseed or Heartseed vine. The botanical name is and Cardiospermum corindum.

Mudakathan is used in treating Arthritis, Backache, Baldness, Cough, Dandruff, Diarrhea, Dysentery, Earache, Eczema, Eye Diseases, Fracture, Gout, Headache, Menses Scanty, Menstrual Disorders, Piles, Rheumatism, Swelling, Wounds.It is used as Hair growth stimulator.


Raw rice -3/4 cup

Par boiled rice -3/4 cup

Urad dal-1/4 cup

Methi seeds-3/4 tsp

Toor dal- 1 tbsp

Mudakathan leaves-1 cup firmly packed (only leaves from creeper)


Method to prepare batter:

1,Wash and soak both the rice, urad dal,fenugreek seeds and Toor dal together for 3 hours.

2.Take the leaves alone from the creeper, wash it well and keep it ready.

3.Grind rice, dal and fenugreek seeds to a smooth paste adding little water as we grind for Dosa or Idli. The consistency should be that of dosa batter consistency. Add the mudakathan leaves also in the end and grind it to a smooth paste. The batter will be in a lovely light green colour.

Allow it to ferment for at-least 6 hours.


To prepare Dosa:

Finely chopped onion,curry leaves with crushed cumin seeds can be added in the batter if you prefer,this gives you crunchy and nice aroma.

Heat a tawa, pour a ladle of batter in the center and spread it thin in a circular motion. You can make thick dosas like uthapam or thin dosa with this batter.


Drizzle a tsp of oil around the dosa, once the edges starts lifting up, flip it over to the other side and drizzle another 1/2 tsp of oil.

Once cooked, remove from pan and serve hot with any chutney of your choice,like Coconut chutney Onion Tomato chutney or Kanagambara thovayal.

Make it more easier method- 2 :

Take 5 cups of normal Dosa batter,Grind 1 cup of Mudakathan Leaves in mixer grinder to smooth paste, the paste will be gooey and green in nature mix with dosa batter,add finely chopped onion,curry leaves with crushed cumin seeds can be added in the batter if you prefer,this gives you crunchy and nice aroma. and make thin Dosa.
