Beans pachadi (dal curry)

Beans Pachadi or Dal curry:

This is different from normal dal curry   in Chettinad region pacha di is made with any vegetable like Brinjal,Beans,Potato,Ladies finger ,Capsicum etc…with Dal and Tomatoes ,This dish  is semi-liquid, unlike Sambar. This can be served with white rice,dosa ,and with curd rice.



Beans 15 nos

Toor Dal boiled- 1 cup

Onion chopped -1

curry leaves-1 spring

Tomato-1 chopped

Coriander leaves chopped1tbsp

Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp

Sambar masala powder-1 tsp

Salt-1 1/4 tsp

Tamarind extract (gooseberry size)

For Seasoning:

Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp

Cumin seeds-1/4 tsp

Oil 3 tsp

Method to prepare:

Wash beans and cut into small pieces

Heat pan with 2 tsp of oil season with the above ingredients “For seasoning”.

Add chopped onion,curry leaves and cut beans saute until half cooked.

Add chopped Tomatoes and salt sautes until it leaves it to skin.

Add turmeric powder, Tamarind extract and sambar masala powder.

Add 1/2 cup of water and cook until the vegetables become soft.

Add boiled dal hing powder and allow it to boil for some time.

Switch off and add some chopped coriander leaves.

Transfer to serving bowl.
