Paruppu Pongal

Ven Pongal: Pongal is the easiest and tastiest dish for breakfast. It is easy to prepare even when you are in a hurry to cook a meal which will be satisfying and tasty too. This recipe is the typical Tamil style of making it and is called the Ven Pongal.



Raw rice -1/2 cup

Moong dal split-1/4 cup

Ginger-1 inch grated

Salt-1/2 tsp

Pepper powder-1/4 tsp

Water-2 1/2 cups



Peppercorns-1/2 tsp

Cumin seeds-1/4 tsp

Curry leaves 2 twigs

Cashew-7 nos broken into pieces

Method to prepare:

Roast dry moong dal slightly this will help you not too sticky, wash rice.

In a pressure cooker add 2 1/2 cups of water, one teaspoon of oil, grated ginger, moong dal, and rice.

Cook for 3 whistles mashes it after steam released add 1/2  more cup of cold water (to avoid getting too thick ) and salt to it mix it well.

Heat pan with 2 tsp of oil and 3 tsp of ghee (If you want less you can reduce the amount of ghee and can be added for children while serving)

Season with cashews, peppercorns, and cumin seeds add curry leaves.

Mix it with the boiled ingredients add pepper powder mix well, Yes smells great!!!!

Ven Pongal can be served with Coconut chutney or Sambar.
