Every time everywhere, Once you hear the name “Upma” we can notice some dislike reactions, This recipe will make you ask for more and more to fill your stomach saying tasty, try once to feel the real taste of Chettinad Rice Rava  Upma. Rice granules with broken toor dal, pepper and cumin give the real taste of Upma, easy to prepare with this traditionally prepared instant mix.

Of course, making Upma is the easiest one. but this rice rava upma needs some additional work to soak and grind rice, season with many ingredients to make the delicious dish. Chettinad instant rice rava makes the words true, Upma is the easiest recipe to prepare with less effort.

Rice Upma Rava- 1 cup(serves 2 to 3 person)

Onion-1 big chopped

Green chilli 2 chopped

Curry leaves

Ginger-1/2 tsp chopped

Grated coconut-1 tbsp


For Seasoning:

Oil/Ghee-1 tbsp

Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp

Urad 1/2 tsp


Heat wide pan, season with the above ingredients, add chopped onion, green chili, and ginger saute for a while.

Add rava , roast with the seasoned ingredients for 1/2 minute add 2 cups of water  and salt pressure cook for 2 whistle.

Finally mix with the teaspoon of ghee and grated coconut thats it so easy. Serve with sambar.



Cucumber paal (Milk) koottu

Cucumber Pal Koottu:

Creamy and delicious paal koottu is easy to prepare with few ingredients. Flavourful koottu is mild spiced and healthy to feed for all age people. Add few drops of ghee on plain cooked hot rice with ladle full of this koottu makes you to feel the heavenly taste. Good combination with any Kara Kuzhambu or vathal Kuzhambu.


Tender Cucumber – 100 gram

Boiled Thor dal – 1/2 cup

Salt – 1/2 tsp

Turmeric powder a pinch

Red chili powder 1/4tsp

Chopped onion shallots – 2tbsp

Grated coconut – 1table spoon

Milk – 1/4 cup


Ghee/oil – 1tsp

Dry red chilli -1

Cumin seeds

Curry leaves and fine chopped onion shallots

Method to prepare :

Chop Cucumber, boil with salt and turmeric powder.

Boil dal separately and add to the boiled cucumber, add chilli powder and allow it to boil.

Finally add milk and grated coconut.

Season it with a tbsp of ghee, and cumin seeds, once splutter add fine chopped onion and curry leaves fry until translucent. Add koottu in this seasoned ingredients.

Aromatic cucumber paal koottu is ready have with plain cooked rice and spicy curries.

Nendran Golden Fry

Nendran Golden Fry:

Raw Banana Nendran-1

Onion -1

Tomato 1 optional

Salt-1/2 tsp

Chilli powder-1/2 tsp

Garlic 3 pods(crushed)

Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp

Oil- 2 tbsp


Slice banana toa medium thick slices.

Heat pan with oil, add few fennel seeds.

Add crushed garlic to the oil, now add long chopped onion to it, saute well until translucent.

Add sliced banana and curry leaves, sprinkle some salt, turmeric and chilli powder.

Smear some water and cook till it gets roasted. Golden banana saute is ready to serve in few minutes of effort.

Health Mix / Sathu mavu


Add the above-mentioned health mix in 250 ml of water, dissolve without lumps, add powdered jaggery. (add more half cup water if you like drinking consistency as malt)

Bring it to boil over a medium flame, once the mix gets thicken and transparent consistency remove from flame.

Transfer to serving bowl smear some ghee on top and serve.

Method to prepare health mix Idiyappam:


Idiyappam mavu 2 cups

hot water 1 cup

salt 2 pinches

grated coconut 1 tablespoon

Jaggery powdered 2 tablespoon

or sprinkle salted buttermilk and season it with mustard seeds and urad, curry leaves can be added.

Take a wide bowl add health mix flour and gradually add hot water, mix with laddle until ball consistency like chapathi batter.

Use Idyappam press to make sevai on idly plate to steam cook.

 In idli making vessel boil water, steam cook this sevai for 5 minutes in medium flame.

Add powdered jaggery, ghee, coconut OR sprinkle salt mixed butter milk and season it to serve.

Serve this delicious dish with full satisfaction.
