Rice water – Not a Waste, but provides Great Taste of nutritional values

Rice water : Rice washed water in Tamil we know as “Arisi Kalanir” or Arisi Mandi

Wonderful uses of this water is just ignored by not knowing the real value is the truth. I have taken this topic of discussion here to share the experience and the value of traditional practice unknowingly followed as method of ancestral advice, from bathing to cooking.

  • Mixed vegetable Mandi

Rice water is the starchy water that remains after soaking or cooking rice.

Rice water is thought to contain many of the vitamins and minerals contained in rice.

These include:

Amino acids
B vitamins
vitamin E
minerals
antioxidants

What is rice water? How can this be used?. What are the benefits of rice water? soo many questions rises in our mind right?

Rice washed milky water is collected for use in cooking , washing vegetables , skin care beauty purpose and for hair growth.

Actually in olden days, our ancestors have followed it as practice. This is still continued in Chettinad region. Like, Cooking recipes Mandi, Vegetable Mandi, Milagai Mandi, Vathal Mandi and so on…

Even my mother used to follow this for cooking unique Chettinad recipes and make lukewarm this to give bath to the babies for skin vitality. Also this warm water is used to cure the itching on the urinal track. This rice drained water can be used to wash Bitter gourd says, it will reduce the bitterness. Cut and drop in , to avoid discoloration of Brinjal and Plantain (banana) flower .

How to process this?

Take two cups of rice gently wash to remove dust if any.

Next, add 3 cups of water soak for 15 minutes, rub well to get the milky consistency of rice water. If you prefer more thicker collect this water alone from rice and keep under refrigeration for3 hours the thicker particles will settle down drain out the water and use the bottom settled milky rice water can be used for cooking and skin care.
